The first set of times are as released after the
race. These times were calculated using a distance of 180.8 statute miles, the point-to-point distance around the course.
The second set (by time and by class) are adjusted (with the race director's approval and using the same start
and finish times) for actual distance covered around the course. These times were calculated using the point-to-point
distance plus a turn adjustment of an additional 3 miles because our airplanes do not turn on a dime.
The turn
adjustment has been used on all prior race speed calculations, and the modified times posted here allow for continuity between
races.
You will note the speeds increase across the field, but the finishing positions do not change.
