Dear Members of the Sport Air Racing League,
It is with deep gratitude and a strong sense of responsibility that I accept the role of Chairman of the Sport Air Racing League for 2026. I am honored by the confidence you have placed in me, and I would like to thank our outgoing chairman, Dave Anderson, for his service to the league and his willingness to step forward when SARL needed leadership.
The year ahead holds tremendous promise for our league. We are entering a period of renewed focus and opportunity—one that builds on SARL’s proud history while setting a clear course for the future. Several important initiatives are already underway, including the launch of a new, modernized website that will better reflect who we are today while preserving the memories and traditions that define our community. We are also introducing new races, expanding opportunities for participation, and broadening our outreach to air racing enthusiasts across the country.
Equally important is our focus on people. We are establishing a mentoring program for new race hosts to ensure they feel supported, prepared, and confident as they step into leadership roles. This effort reflects the spirit of SARL—experienced racers and organizers helping others succeed, maintaining our standards for safety, organization, and enjoyment while welcoming new ideas and new energy.
One of the most significant milestones in SARL’s history is our new status as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. This achievement strengthens our foundation and opens new doors for charitable giving from individuals, corporations, and partners who share our passion for aviation. These resources will allow us to build the league with races nationwide and better support race hosts financially. Excess funds will be used to begin building a scholarship fund to invest in the future of aviation. Through this fund, we hope to assist young people pursuing training in piloting, maintenance, airport management, and other aviation-related paths—helping ensure a strong future for aviation and air racing alike.
As we look ahead, it is clear that SARL’s strength has always come from its members. Volunteers, racers, hosts, and supporters working together have built a league that is both resilient and unique. Donna and I look forward to listening, collaborating, and working alongside each of you as we continue to strengthen the league and grow our community.
Thank you for the opportunity to serve. I am excited about the direction we are heading and confident that, together, we can make 2026 a positive and memorable year for the Sport Air Racing League.
Sincerely,
Jim Wilson
Chairman, Sport Air Racing League (2026)
